Changes to anthropology
I liked too much this topic because i always thought that this career needs many changes. My main problem with this career is that I feel it is very anachronistic and has a little updated approach to current anthropology. Compared with other universities that have this career I think that this one has too much focus on indigenous issues. And yes, its okay have that focus in part, because the development of the anthropology was in context of indigenous investigation, and yes we have the case of the mapuche and all the investigation problems linked with their culture, but such a specific approach can generate a closure with anthropology in other parts of the world. As Miguel de Unamuno said "Fascism is cured by reading and xenophobia is removed traveling" maybe we need to focus our career in that, in the diversity of human groups but linked directly with them ... I know, it is difficult to make a whole generation travel around the world to meet people from other cultures, but what can be done is to encourage more lands linked to foreign communities and generate networks of support for those communities. I think that the career lacks a more international approach, also younger teachers maybe to deal with the most current issues that they are working. Regarding the practical work I think that it is necessary to do more fieldwork to know what other anthropologists are doing and see their work in the field. I think that in the use of technologies it would be worthwhile to manage more audiovisual resources to make the field work a much more attractive experience than just photographs, also that would serve to see all the possibilities that anthropology delivers. Many times anthropology is seen as the discipline that investigates the excluded or exotic groups but it is much more than that.Regarding the teaching methods, I think that classes would better if we use more the way of debate, I think in this faculty there a hierarchical barrier even with teachers which prevents generating a space of confidence to build a dialogue. I had the opportunity to attend a class at the Catholic University, and all the professors were younger and the atmosphere was more cordial, that allowed that there was more interest in participating in the students than just listening to the teacher. I really like this career, but I think it needs to offer courses with more diverse topics and other field work space to become familiar with the discipline, even though I think that with the curricular change that will improve a lot and also this is a very comfortable and good to learn
